Backing Up Your Template

AS ALWAYS, REMEMBER TO SAVE YOUR HTML CODE BEFORE MAKING ANY CHANGES.

You do that by:

1. After you have signed in to your blog, you will either come to the DASHBOARD, where you will select your blog, or if you only have one blog you will come to it.

2. Select CUSTOMIZE.

3. Usually the LAYOUT tab will open, but if it doesn't, then select LAYOUT tab.

4. When the LAYOUT screen is open, you will select EDIT HTML (it will be just under the tabs bars on your screen).

5. You will see the following on the screen:
Backup / Restore Template
Before editing your template, you may want to save a copy of it. Download Full Template

6. Select the Download Full Template and a FILE DOWNLOAD popup screen will appear.

7. Select Save*, and save the XML document in a place you will remember. I usually create a folder for each blog.

*HINT - I rename the template when I save it so that I will remember it. For example, I will usually name it the month and year, and name of the blog, and that it's a backup. When I save/backup this blog template, it will be saved as 2008-12 ECB Backup Template.

I've been an avid scrapper for about 15 years, using traditional paper, glue, stickers and scissors, then about a year ago I began digital scrapping. I found it to be so exciting, and ever changing. I am learning more and more every day. In this blog I will share my favorite sites and how to's. I'm still learning as well. All the kits I will use for my blog are from CanDesigns. Candee, of Mermaid's Haven is my favorite designer, and she has great terms of use. Terms of Use (TOU's) are very important! You must always follow the TOU's when using someone else's designs for your layouts. I started this blog because I had so many questions about how I created my blogs. I will be posting easy to follow instructions for changing your blog background, changing and creating your blog header, and creating a FavIcon for a new icon on your address bar. All these instructions are for BLOGGER (blogspot accounts).

  1. Sorry to be a pain! I do OK backing up my template until step #7. I don't get an option to change the name or location of my backup. I use Windows Vista as OS. I don't know if this makes a difference. Help!
